Held over the weekend of the
23/24/25 of February at the oddballs usual site Lower Lacon caravan park,
just outside Wem.
Unlike the Ballsup rally.
Which has two focal points the barn and marquee. The Frozen Ballsup is
centered around
the barn.
Though there was a concession to the youngsters with the provision of a
rave tent. Sadly it was woefully under used. The Oddball in charge
said he was the only occupant all weekend.
As the Oddballs is a family orientated club a small area
of the barn was put aside for the amusement and safety of the kids
As with most good things, you always get hangers
on. At this rally there was a lot of furry hangers on, and these seemed
to be limited to hanging of the backs of women
joke
Friday nights band was "Ebenezer
Weasel". It was the first time I had seen this band, I should have
seen them a few weeks back: but unfortunately as they were unloading
their gear from the van and while the van was left briefly unattended
some tea leafs purloined the drum kit, so they where unable to perform.
They were certainly worth the wait as they were excellent, as were
"The Accelerators" who performed for us on Saturday night.
For once Terry and René were not the first
to be up and dancing. For the majority of the time, when there was no
bands on , musical entertainment was provided by the ever excellent
Tonto. The regular bar maid was unable to do her shift due to
illness. Kathy
(the Oddballs secretary ) and Vicky stepped in to help out.
Just after I took
the above picture, the chap next to me holds up his camera and says
snap. He has the same camera as me.
It transpires that he edits a website for the Moonshiners mcc. Click
on the link to be dragged kicking and screaming to Lone wolf's
site. Don't be fooled by appearances o'l Lone wolf moves faster
than a curry through someone who already has the squits. Because when I
went to check out his site early that Sunday evening, he'd already typed
and published his "take" on the frozen balls up. Contained in
that report is a picture of a handsome, suave and debonair looking chap.
The D.O says she doesn't know about that. But recon's that the numbers are missing from the bottom of the picture.
Terry Brimacombe kept pestering his dad Glyn (Usk
Valley mcc) to take him to a rally. Glyn finally relented and for young
Terry's first rally brought him to the frozen Ballsup. When the Oddballs
heard about this they presented him with a Oddballs mug as an extra memento
of his first rally.
Things had just got under way Saturday night when the word flashed
around the barn that it was snowing!
Back in the barn the arm wrestling got underway
The men's competition was eventually won by Gamble of the Flying monkeys
mcc. There was only two contestants for the women's event which ended,
after a hard fought battle, in a draw. Other awards presented were. Club
turn out to Off your Butts. This award was decided by the number of club
members that actually came on a bike or trike. Those attending who came
in a car were not counted. Scobie Foley from county Killkenny, Ireland
with 228 miles got the male mileage trophy. The female award went to Sam
of Blackpool MAG. Francesco Rubenni of Florence, Italy took the
international award. The Perverts in Leather won the quiz
Bike awards went to a KH400 as Best Jap. Best Rat to a Honda benley.
Best Brit a Triumph Bonneville. Best chop Honda CM125.
This was the yellow and blue chop I had caught a glimpse of at the 10th
Ballsup, as you can see it sports an all black overcoat now. Best custom
was another Bonnie
Best trike was awarded to Gandalf.
The last time I saw this trike in the "flesh" was when it was still under
construction in A&N's workshop about 4 or 5 years ago. Best
overall was given to this
Bandit combo A cheque was also presented to NADB for a £100.
Sunday morning dawned with blue sky and a thin carpet of snow
covering the ground, tents and bikes.
Because of this there was, it seemed, a reluctance to pack up and go.
Tea in the control tent was free and they did a steady trade till it ran
out. The site wasn't clear of tents till well into the afternoon. To
thank those for attending a small group of Oddballs gathered where
the control tent had been and waved them on their way.
As this is a winter rally the club only expected around a 150 or so as
it was there was over 350.
